  • Single Speed CX is For Real

SSCX don’t need street cred, street cred need SSCX. We have 76 riders registered for the Raleigh Bicycles Single Speed race at StarCrossed. Really? Really? I remember thinking single speed was a niche in a niche when people begged for a single speed race. SSCX is for real for sure. Field limit is 80 riders. Don’t miss one of those last four spots and a chance to automatically qualify for Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships.

  • Press Release: Confirmed Riders for Elite Men and Women

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

StarCrossed Cyclocross confirms riders for the Shimano Elite Men and Women’s races

Seattle, WA – August 26th, 2010 – StarCrossed p/b Stanley – A Brand of PMI has attracted an international field for 2010 as top riders from North America and Europe are starting to confirm attendance to race in the Shimano Men’s and Women’s Elite StarCrossed races. StarCrossed is part of the national cyclocross series, the North American Cyclocross Trophy Series (NACT). The NACT kicks off with StarCrossed on September 18th, and stays the weekend in Seattle with racing on Sunday at the legendary Rad Racing Gran Prix, this year hosted at a brand new venue, Lake Sammamish State Park.

Currently, international riders from France, Italy, Canada, Czech Republic, Belgium, and Switzerland have confirmed attendance at the 9th edition of StarCrossed. This includes National Champions Francis Mourey (France, Française Des Jeux), Katie Compton (USA, Planet Bike), Geoff Kabush (Canada, Maxxis-Rocky Mountain), and Katerina Nash (Czech Republic, Luna).

Joining Mourey and Kabush on the start line for the Shimano Elite Men’s race is an impressive roster including Jonathan Page (Planet Bike, 2nd 2007 Cyclocross World Championships), Christian Huele, (5-time Swiss Cyclocross Champion and defending StarCrossed Champion), Ryan Trebon (Kona, 2009 US Gran Pix of Cyclocross winner and 2-time US Cyclocross Champion), and Adam Craig (Rabobank-Giant, 2-time US Mountain Biking Olympian).

On the Women’s side Compton and Nash will be battling with Sue Bulter (Hudz-Subaru, 2008 StarCrossed Champ), Natasha Elliott (Garneau Club Chaussure Ogilvy, defending NACT Champion), and Wendy Simms (Kona, former Canadian Cyclocross Champion and StarCrossed winner) for the win.

The confirmation of Francis Mourey, a perennial top five threat on the Cyclocross World Cup, at StarCrossed shows the tremendous growth of the event and elite cyclocross racing in the United States. With the Cyclocross World Championships coming to United States in 2013, it likely that more Europeans will compete in top US cyclocross events to experience the travel and atmosphere in America.

“We are very excited to have Francis Mourey start his campaign to become the 2011 World Cyclocross Champion in our backyard at StarCrossed and Rad Racing GP. We can’t wait to see Francis racing for FdJ / Lapierre on US soil,” stated Tim Rutledge, Lapierre US Brand Manager.

“To finally have six-time US Cyclocross Champion, Katie Compton, at StarCrossed is also fabulous for us this year. Katie is simply one of the most successful US female cyclist in history with World Cup victories and World Championship medals on her resume,” stated Zac Daab, StarCrossed co-promoter. Between Compton and Katerina Nash the front of the women’s race will have two of the Cyclocross World Cup’s top women.

In addition to all the domestic and European racers making the journey to Seattle for the weekend, Jonathan Page will be opting to skip the UCI races on the East Coast, and fly directly from his home in Oudenaarde, Belgium, with his eye on the win at StarCrossed. Page is noted for American’s best-to-date finish at any Elite Men’s Cyclocross World Championship with his silver medal in the 2007 race. Page has proven he can crack the top-10 at World Cup cyclocross races year in, and year out, and will be looking to open his 2010 campaign with a strong finish at StarCrossed.

    • September 17 – HSP Cross Clinic featuring Jonathan Page
    • September 18 – StarCrossed p/b Stanley – A Brand of PMI
    • September 19 – Rad Racing GP p/b Hammer Nutrition

Brian Vernor’s (Pure Sweet Hell) new film The Cyclocross Meeting is about the currently exploding US cyclocross scene and the emerging Japanese cyclocross scene. The Cyclocross Meeting follows Barry Wicks and Adam Mcgrath two top US races in New Jersey and Oregon, and then to Japan, where they compete with seven times Japanese National Champion Keiichi Tsujiura, and the up and coming talent Yu Takenouchi. The film screening is presented by Yakima, Chris King, Giro, and Nuun. The September 16th showing will be at the Seattle Musical Theater located at the Magnuson Park Community Center in Seattle. On September 17th Herriott Sports Performance in conjunction with Lake Washington Velo and RAD Racing NW presents a FREE cyclocross clinic featuring HSP athlete, Jonathan Page, 2007 Cyclocross Worlds Silver Medalist. This clinic is a unique opportunity to take instruction from one of the most accomplished cyclocross racers in American history. Jonathan will preview the StarCrossed course with the riders in attendance and go over the nuances of the race start and the barrier section as well as give his personal insight on the other sections of the course. Clinic starts at 5:30 pm at the Marymoor Velodrome in King County’s Marymoor Park, Redmond, WA.

Finally the weekend of racing arrives with the rounds one and two of the North American Cyclocross Trophy (NACT) on September 18th and 19th at StarCrossed and Rad Racing GP.

First presented in 2002 StarCrossed was the nation’s first twilight cyclocross race. Now, it is the much anticipated season opener to the US cyclocross season kicking-off each year in style under the lights of the Marymoor Velodrome on a fast and spectator friendly course surrounded by a festive atmosphere. StarCrossed features great racing, DJ spun tunes, packed Deschutes Brewery beer garden, racing under the lights and the generous door prizes. Racing for the Elite Women starts at 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm for the Elite Men at King County’s Marymoor Park.

The longest running UCI cross race in the state of Washington, 2010 will be the 9th year for the Rad Racing GP. The event moves to the shores of Lake Sammamish for 2010 bringing a fabulous course featuring high speed balance by a brutal beach section on the shores of Lake Sammamish with views of the Cascade Mountains. The famous 80 meter thigh busting “Knapp-time Run-up” from past editions of the Rad Racing GP will be replaced by a equally long beach section that will challenge riders as they gamble on ride it or run it. Riders either really love it or they hate it but regardless they will be stirred on by frantic race fans in the beach side Deschutes Beer Garden. Racing for the Elite Women starts at 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm for the Elite Men and Lake Sammamish State Park.

  • SS Race Winner Automatic Qualifier for SSCXWC

Low Pressure Promotions, LLC and Washington Unified Single Speeders, LLC (WUSS) are excited to announce that the winner of the Raleigh Bicycles Single Speed race at StarCrossed p/b Stanley – A brand of PMI will automatically qualify for the final at the Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships (SSCXWC). Seattle will be hosting SSCXWC on October 23rd and 24th with qualifying for the championship held on Saturday, October 24th.

Zac Daab, co-promoter of StarCrossed, boasted, “We now host the second most important single speed cyclocross race in the world.  Avoiding the riggers of the qualifying process for the final at SSCXWC could be quite an advantage for the winner of StarCrossed (Single Speed).”

A limited number of riders will be given the privilege to race in the championship race on Sunday, October 24th. Currently over 225 riders are pre-register for the weekend’s festivities so the qualifier is mandatory in order to secure a spot in the race on Sunday, October 24th.  SSCXWC will be offering “repechage” opportunities during the many events planned on Saturday.  Winning the MFG Cyclocross SS race earlier on Sunday will be the final qualifier.  The winner of StarCrossed Raleigh Bicycles Single Speed race will avoid the stress and possible humiliation of the qualify process set forward by WUSS. The winner will also be the new owner of a Raleigh single speed frame.

  • FAQ – Staging?

Non-Elite Categories will be stage randomly. Top Ten from 2009 will be staged in the first two rows if racing the same category in 2010. Elite Categories will be staged by UCI rules. Hope the random number generator in MS Excel smiles on you but keep in mind StarCrossed has one of the fairest starts in cyclocross. At least that is what NW cross guru Tim Rutledge tells us.
