History and Results

First presented in 2002 Star Crossed was the nation’s first twilight cyclocross race. Now, it is the much anticipated season opener to the US cyclocross season kicking-off each year in style under the Velodrome lights at King County’s Marymoor Park on a fast and spectator friendly course surrounded by a festive atmosphere. Star Crossed features great racing, DJ spun tunes, packed beer garden, racing under the lights and the generous door prizes. Star Crossed has also become the opening event of the North American Cyclocross Trophysince its inception in 2008.  The ninth annual Star-Crossed is coming at you Saturday, September 18, Marymoor Park, Redmond, WA.Star Crossed has been featured over the past eight years  in Bicycling Magazine, VeloNews, Road and Cyclocross Magazine. In 2002 Star Crossed made the coveted VeloNews “Hot List”. Bicycling commented in 2005, “They came for the party, but stayed for the racing.”

What “They” Are Saying About Star Crossed

Andrew Yee, Editor, Cyclocross Magazine – “It’s the attitude of trying to do something different that has made Star Crossed one of the must-attend events in the country. Combining Belgium’s famous beer tents, Georgia’s long-standing Athens Twilight Crit’s excitement, a velodrome’s arena setting and a DJ to pump up a few thousand spectators, Star Crossed has cemented its spot in the US ‘cross scene as one of the top ‘cross races for racers and fans.”

Tim Johnson, Three Time National CX Champion – “I have to say that my favorites (courses) are Star Crossed, Gloucester and Boulder’s Harlowe Platt Park.”

Neil Browne, Professional Journalist, Amateur Cyclocross Racer – “I’ve been to the Giro, Road in the team care at the Vuelta, sat in the refs car for the entire Paris-Roubaix, interviewed amazing athletes, as well as met great people during my time on the road. I would have to add racing at Star Crossed in Seattle as one of those things in life that I won’t forget.”

Jonny Sundt, Race Co-Founder & 2002 Champion – “My dad’s golf buddies love Star Crossed. Why? Simple: bright lights, great racing, lively tunes, cold brews, and unabashed champagne-toting podium girls.”

Anonymous  Bike Racer – “It’s perfect. It’s like an end-of-year party for the road racers and a kick-off party for the cyclocross racers.”

Dave Towle, The Voice of American Bike Racing – “Star Crossed has created a model that needs to be repeated around the country. The racers love it, and the spectators have a real opportunity to discover how intense and fun the sport really is. I can’t wait to get the season started, and Star Crossed is the perfect way to do it. The only problem is that one of the best races of the year is the first!”

Christian Heule, Multiple-Time Swiss National CX Champion – “The crowds here are as loud as Europe.”
